TODAY

This morning Pastor Jeremy continues the creation sermon series, focusing on day 6.  His sermon is titled In God’s Image.

Discovery Hour classes for Children and Youth in K-12 will meet.

The discussion of the book Pure Grace will resume in the Café.

Pastor Jeremy will lead our En•count•er service at 5:30 PM.

There will also be a combined worship service of west side congregations at West Leonard Church at 6:00 PM.

NEXT SUNDAY

Next Sunday begins our Mission Emphasis week.  In the morning Bob Harris, former missionary to the Philippines, will preach.

Discovery Hour classes for Children and Youth in K-12 will meet.

During the evening service, our guest preacher will be John DeLeeuw.

Our giving opportunities will be for the Ministries Fund and Faith Promise in the morning, and Home Missions in the evening.

OUR WESTEND FAMILY

Pete Teitsma (care group 6) had his pacemaker removed last week due to an infection.  He is at Spectrum Heart Center with a temporary external pacemaker until the infection clears and a new pacemaker can be put in.

June Holtvluwer (care group 7) was hospitalized to have fluid removed from her lungs.  She hopes to be home, but is awaiting heart valve repair surgery.

Melita DeVries (care group 9) will undergo surgery for a leaky heart valve at Spectrum Heart Center this Thursday.

Ron Griffin (care group 1) had another foot surgery.  He faces a long recovery.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS 

At their meeting last week, the Shepherd Elders:

• Made plans to celebrate communion at the morning service of November 17.

• Approved the membership transfer of Kerri Robinson to Westend from Second Congregational UCC of GR.  Kerri and Jim will be welcomed at an upcoming worship service.

• Approved the membership transfer of Guy and Christine Suchecki and family from Westend to Monroe Community Church of GR.

• Approved baptism by immersion, if requested.

Council members – please meet in the balcony for a brief meeting after this morning’s service.

Put a smile on a college student’s face!  Please help us fill the college care packages with goodies.  If you took a tag from the bulletin board, please drop off the item listed today in the main kitchen.  Boxes will be packed and shipped this week.

Kids Hope mentors – this Wednesday, October 30, we will have a pizza lunch at Shawmut Hills from 11:15-12:40.  Meet your student, their teacher, and become familiar with the school!

Kids Hope mentors and prayer partners – next week we begin mentoring!  If you have been matched with a student, you should have a new Kids Hope bag full of supplies, including your schedule.

Next Sunday is our monthly food collection for the Gold Ave. pantry.  The items most needed are cereal, rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned veggies and fruit, canned meat and tuna, peanut butter, soup, cooking oil, personal care items, baby food, and disposable diapers.  Please, no glass jars.  Clean plastic or paper grocery bags are also needed.  Thank you so much for your continued support!

Is your birthday in November?  Please share your happiness by bringing cookies for our morning coffee time.  Cookies may be left in the kitchen.

A time of prayer for Kids Hope will meet after the morning service.  Come to the Café as we ask the Father’s blessing on the new school year.

Rev. Bob Tigchelaar will be our guest preacher at the 6:00 service.  His sermon will be from Matthew 18.

Congratulations to Stephanie Bustraan (care group 8) and Brent DeKryger (care group 8) who were married yesterday, and  to Rob Veenstra (care group 3) and Kristen Lodden who also were  married yesterday.

Happy belated birthday to Pete Teitsma (care group 6) who turned 97 on October 9.

Bernice Kroeze (care group 5) spent some time in St. Mary’s Hospital last week.  She has returned to her home at Covenant Village.
