Bulletin 1-14-18

January 14, 2018

TODAY

This morning Pastor Kory continues the sermon series Now What? with the message Give, from 1 Corinthians 12.

The second offering will be for Christian Education.

NEXT SUNDAY

Next Sunday Pastor Kory continues the sermon series Now What? with Grow, from John 15. It will also be Cadet Sunday, and our Cadets and their Leaders will participate in the service.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Cadets.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Martha Besteman recently had a stroke. She is now recovering in her home, and requests prayers but no visitors.

Carol Binnendyk had gallbladder surgery. She hopes to be released from the hospital by now.

Virginia Boonstra has moved to the nursing section of the Christian Rest Home.

Connie Meekhof had surgery to remove her thyroid and the biopsy found it to be cancerous. The prognosis is good, but she will receive some radiation treatments as a precaution.

MISSION STATEMENT OF WESTEND

Grateful for God’s amazing gifts, we:

gather for joyful worship of God,

give ourselves in loving service,

grow in faith and love,

guide people to Jesus Christ.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

New Member Orientation. If you’ve been thinking about making Westend your official church home, you are invited to a New Member Orientation led by Pastor Kory. We will meet next Sunday, January 21, in the Café after church. A light lunch and childcare will be provided. Learn more about Westend, our ministries, and how you can be a part of it. Sign up on the table in the Fellowship Center.

Are you looking for a way to get involved in Children’s Ministry? Alisha is in need of ongoing help with busy work (copying, sorting) for Sunday School, Children’s Worship, and the children’s activity bags. If you are interested, please contact Alisha.

This Wednesday will be the youth-sponsored Community (post) Christmas Ham Dinner! Come for ham, potatoes, veggies, and homemade desserts. You know it will be fabulous!

Our first Feeding America truck of the new year is also Wednesday. Please sign up to help if you can. There are also envelopes by the sign up sheet for any who wish to contribute toward the Feeding America truck.

Ministry Directors will meet this Wednesday evening at 6.

The shut-in visiting team will meet this Thursday morning at 9:30 in the Café.

The Ladies’ Thursday afternoon Bible study meets this week. We will study Psalm 139 (a re-schedule from the January 4 canceled study). New members are welcome!

The Thursday evening ladies group starts a new study this Thursday evening at 6:30 in the Café, and will meet the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month for 7 sessions. Priscilla Shirer’s video-based study Discerning the Voice of God will be used. Please join us. If you have questions, or wish to reserve a study guide, contact Faye Kragt at fayekragt@gmail.com.

The deacons are looking for a volunteer to provide two members with a ride to and from church on the third Sunday of each month. If you are willing to help, please contact Julie VanGroningen.

DivorceCare divorce recovery seminar and support group meets here at Westend, starting Tuesday, January 23, at 6:30 PM for 13 weeks. Seminar sessions include Facing My Anger, Facing My Loneliness, New Relationships, KidCare and Forgiveness. For more information, contact Doug or Deb Stapley at dstapley5@sbcglobal.net.

Safe Church training will be held Thursday, January 25, 6:30 PM in our fellowship center. If you are a teacher, leader, mentor, council member, nursery or children’s worship worker who has not had the training in the last 3 years, please plan to attend.

You may have noticed that Westend no longer assigns members to visit Gold Ave Church. However, anyone is still welcome to visit Gold Ave at 10 AM any Sunday.

Beginning in February we will no longer take a food collection for Gold Ave Pantry, as it has now become an emergency only pantry. Any financial contributions designated Food Pantry will now be directed to Feeding America.
