Bulletin 10-15-17

October 15, 2017

TODAY

This morning our guest preacher is Rev Dan Ackerman, whose message, That’s My Pastor! is from 1 Corinthians 1 and 3.

NEXT SUNDAY

Next Sunday will be the installation service for Pastor Kory. His father-in-law, Rev Steven Childerston, will be preaching.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Christian Education.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Please be in prayer for Donna VanderKlipp.  She had been feeling sick, had fallen, and started having seizures.  She is in critical care at Spectrum Hospital and awaiting test results.

Please pray also for Verna Betten who fell and has broken vertebra. She is home now with a back brace, and will begin therapy in the upcoming weeks.

We offer our sympathy to Cathy and Duane Droge in the sudden passing of Cathy’s brother, Mark Grasman.

MISSION STATEMENT OF WESTEND

Grateful for God’s amazing gifts, we:

gather for joyful worship of God,

give ourselves in loving service,

grow in faith and love,

guide people to Jesus Christ.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Check your mailbox for a prayer card listing one of Westend’s ministry groups. Please bring this group to God in prayer throughout the year.

The Outreach Committee is looking for a few good people to join their team. Please contact Mike Smallegan to volunteer or if you have any questions.

Pigs are coming! Those delicious pigs-in-blankets are being sold once again by the Christian Ed committee. Order forms and details are on the desk by the kitchen.

Ministry Directors will meet in the library this Wednesday at 6 PM.

The Ladies’ Thursday Bible Study meets this week. Please study lesson 6, Isaiah 7.

Apple pies! What’s better than eating apple pie? Eating pie that you don’t even have to make! The youth are making apple pies, both full and personal size. They can be frozen and baked for the holidays! Check out the order form in your mailbox.

It’s time again to make shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child. The boxes are distributed around the world along with a booklet of Bible stories in the local language. We ask all families of children from 3s & 4s through grade 5 (or anyone else) to put together a shoebox, and bring it to church by November 12. Go to www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ for details or grab a flyer from the back of church.

The Yankee Candles deadline is tomorrow! To order, you can either:

  • Check out a catalogue (on the desk near the kitchen) or the website yankeecandlefundraising.com, write down what you would like to order, including the item description, item number, and quantity, and place it with a check (made out to Westend) in April Myles’ mailbox. Please add $3 for shipping. Orders are due October 16 and will be delivered to church before Thanksgiving.
  • OR go to yankeecandlefundraising.com, enter the group number 999971829 and shop away! Online orders will incur taxes and full shipping charges, but credit and debit cards will be accepted and orders will ship to your home.

Feel free to share the website and group number with your friends and family!

If you are hurting from separation or divorce and anxious about the holiday season, there is hope. Find out how to find a new normal and receive encouragement. Surviving the Holidays will be held here Saturday, November 18, 10 AM – noon. If you have questions or desire more information, please contact the Stapleys.

When was your last night out without the kids? The Christian Ed committee is considering a drop off the kids night on Friday, November 24, if there is enough interest. Go shopping, or have a quiet dinner. Contact April Myles.

With the blessing of Westend, Gold Avenue has begun the journey to become an organized church of the CRC. A celebration is being planned to honor God’s faithfulness, and to thank the many supporters of Gold Avenue. In an effort to tell Gold Avenue’s story, memories, photos, slides, videos, and stories of past volunteers are being collected for the celebration. If you have something you are willing to contribute, please give your contact information to Rose in the Westend office (office@westendcrc.org or 616.453.3077) along with a description of what you wish to contribute. Members of Gold’s celebration team will contact you.
