MISSION STATEMENT OF WESTEND

gather for joyful worship of God,

give ourselves in loving service,

grow in faith and love,

guide people to Jesus Christ.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Everyone is invited to join the group in the Café each Sunday morning at 9:15 as we gather to give thanks to God, and to pray for the worship service, the needs in our church, and other concerns that come to mind.

Shawmut Hills has submitted the names of several students who would like to be part of the Kids Hope program! New mentors are desperately needed. Please consider becoming a mentor and making a difference in a child’s life. Contact Sue Mellema with any questions you may have.

It’s never too early to pick up Christmas gifts or décor for the holidays. The Christian Ed team is kicking off a Yankee Candle Sale! You can make your order two ways:

  • Check out a catalogue (a few are placed in the fellowship center) or the website yankeecandlefundraising.com, write down what you would like to order, including the item description, item number, and quantity, and place it with a check (made out to Westend) in April Myles’ mailbox. Please add $3 for shipping. Orders are due October 16 and will be delivered to church before Thanksgiving.
  • OR go straight to the website yankeecandlefundraising.com, enter the group number 999971829 and shop away! Online orders will incur taxes and full shipping charges, but credit and debit cards will be accepted and orders will ship to your home.

Feel free to share the website and group number with your friends and family!

Flu shots will be available in the Café this Wednesday, October 11, 10-11 AM.

Book Club meets this Thursday at 7 PM. The book to read is The Orphan Tale, by Pam Jenoff.

Due to office remodeling, our phone system has been rather mixed up. This has had a major impact on the prayer line. If you have a prayer need that you would normally leave on the prayer line, you may wish to contact your elder instead. Once remodeling is completed, a technician will be called to get everything working again. Please bear with us.

The Emergency Medical Team asks anyone with a medical or first aid background to contact julie.bulson@spectrumhealth.org.

Costume jewelry is being collected for MCFS. Donations can be put in the box on the table near the mailboxes by Thanksgiving.

Save the date! On December 10 Gold Ave CRC will have a Celebration of Organizing worship service. More details to come.

YOUTH

JRock

  • October 13-14 will be our overnight retreat at Hoekzema’s cottage in Cadillac. We will leave from church this Friday at 7 PM and return Saturday at 4 PM. Cost is $10.

LIFE

  • We meet this evening, 6-8 PM.

  • Save October 28 for our next activity.

THANK YOU

I want to thank everyone who came out in support of our 50s dinner. It was such a fun night with great weather, fun cars and a great turn out! Over $1,000 was raised for our summer mission trip. Special thanks to Al Broene and everyone else who donated food and helped with this dinner. I deeply appreciate all the many ways that this church supports our youth group and all our student ministries. ~ Brian
