Bulletin 12-10-17

December 10, 2017

Today Pastor Kory continues the Advent sermon series with Waiting with Open Arms, from Isaiah 10.

Our offerings are for the Ministries Fund and Christian Education.

Next Sunday Pastor Kory continues the Advent sermon series. The message, Waiting with Activity, is from Isaiah 61. We will also have the children’s Christmas program during the morning service.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Benevolence.

Come next Sunday evening at 5:30 for our Candlelight Service. We will worship through songs and readings.

Tryson Smallegan is scheduled for surgery this Thursday to fix his hydrocele. This should be an outpatient procedure.

Phyllis VanHeest was hospitalized last week to have a feeding tube put in. Plans were to have her home by Friday.

Lawrn VanderKlipp remains at Blodgett Hospital and is receiving occupational therapy.

Betty Bursma has returned home from the hospital following successful oral surgery.

Grateful for God’s amazing gifts, we:

gather for joyful worship of God,

give ourselves in loving service,

grow in faith and love,

guide people to Jesus Christ.

Christmas Blessings are due today. Have you been financially blessed this year? Would you consider a special gift to be shared as a Christmas Blessing with those of our church family who haven’t been so fortunate? You may place donations in the offering plate, labeling them Christmas Blessings. Thank you.

The Children’s Christmas program is next Sunday, December 17. Please have your K-5 children at church next Sunday at 8:45, and all 3s & 4s at church by 9:15. Thank you!

Met & Exceed. It is with joy and praise to God that we announce meeting our yearend Ministries Fund financial goal! Thank you, Westend family, for your support. Have you been blessed and are you looking for a specific need to give to? Please consider:

  • Christian Education
  • Needed technology upgrades to stream services throughout the church and on our website
  • Phone service updates in the office
  • Signage throughout the church to direct people to different areas more clearly
  • Florescent to LED conversion on many lights in the church (long-term savings to Westend)
  • New carpet through much of the church

For further and specific facilities needs, contact Jim Goote, Administrator, or Brad Kole, Facilities Chair. Thank you for your continued support! ~ Jeremy Marsman, Treasurer

This Wednesday is our Community Dinner. Our youth group will dish up a delicious meal with glazed ham, mashed potatoes, beans, corn, rolls and homemade desserts! Join us!

A sign up sheet is in the fellowship center for anyone willing to make desserts for Wednesday’s dinner.

Another sign up sheet is out for anyone willing to sign up to help at future Community Dinners. Also, keep in mind we will need helpers for the Wednesdays when we have the Feeding America truck coming. Those dates are January 17, February 21, and March 21.

Choir members needed! The Candlelight Service is planned for December 17 at 5:30. If you would like to be part of the choir (singing two songs) please come to rehearsals today and December 17 at 3:30 in the sanctuary.

With the blessing of Westend, Gold Ave is becoming an organized church of the CRC. All are invited to a celebration today at 3 PM at Gold.

If inclement weather warrants the cancelation of our worship services or Westend Wednesday activities, announcements will be made on TV13, TV8, the Westend Facebook page, and on the church answering machine.

Seniors, Tuesday is our catered luncheon, followed by a program of Christmas music. See you there at 11:30.

We are collecting gift items for Shawmut Hills kids and their families. Their Wish List includes toys for all ages (newborn to late teen), basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, socks, underwear, slippers, sweats, hoodies, blankets, uniform shirts (polo shirts in red, black or blue), and gift sets (body wash, lotion). Donations may be placed, unwrapped, under the tree in the fellowship center by December 17.

Volunteers are needed for nursery on Christmas. Please contact Alisha or respond to the email request that she sent.

Needed – a few new Cadet Counselors. If you are interested, or if you have questions, contact Len Hudson.

We would like to thank our church family for the many kind words, cards and prayers, and visits from Pastor Kory since Bernie’s passing. Our family is truly blessed to have such a caring church family. ~ the Langelands & Katsmas
