Bulletin 12-17-17

December 17, 2017

Today Pastor Kory continues the Advent sermon series. The message, Waiting with Activity, is from Isaiah 61. We will also have the children’s Christmas program during the morning service.

Come this evening at 5:30 for our Candlelight Service. We will worship through songs and readings. An offering for Mel Trotter Ministries will be collected in the narthex as you leave the service.

Next Sunday Pastor Kory continues the Advent sermon series. The message, Waiting with Bated Breath, is from Isaiah 35.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Christian Education.

Bette Bomhof is now receiving hospice care. Her family has asked for prayers, but no visitors.

Mark Koning’s surgery went well last week. He is scheduled for more surgery tomorrow to prepare his body for radiation on his lungs.

Stephanie Payton had a clear MRI last week! Give thanks!

Mike Smallegan had surgery on his sinuses last week. All went well and he is recovering at home.

Tryson Smallegan’s surgery went well. He is recovering at home.

Stephanie and Jason Smith are expecting triplets! Hopefully the babies won’t arrive before May. They would appreciate your prayers and support as they deal with a high-risk pregnancy and big changes to come.

Chuck Tumbling has returned to St Mary’s Hospital.

Lawrn VanderKlipp has been able to return home. Chemo and radiation treatments will begin after Christmas.

Marilyn VanderKlok is waiting for surgery to remove a cancerous growth on her foot.

Phyllis VanHeest is now recovering from last week’s surgery in the skilled nursing care area of Covenant Village.

Who greeted you this morning? Your Care Group 4 greeters were Larry and Diane Maat, and Gerald and Joan Miller.

Choir members – we rehearse today at 3:30 in the sanctuary.

Today is the last day to bring gift items for Shawmut Hills kids and their families. Their Wish List includes toys for all ages (newborn to late teen), basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, socks, underwear, slippers, sweats, hoodies, blankets, uniform shirts (polo shirts in red, black or blue), and gift sets (body wash, lotion). Donations may be placed, unwrapped, under the tree in the fellowship center today.

Kids Hope mentors – there will be no tutoring beginning this Friday, December 22, until school resumes Monday, January 8.

Needed – a 2nd semester catechism teacher for the 6th – 8th graders. Classes begin in January. Please see Bethany Hoekzema.

A sign up sheet is out for anyone willing to help at future Community Dinners. Also, keep in mind we will need helpers for the Wednesdays when we have the Feeding America truck coming. Those dates are January 17, February 21, and March 21.

If inclement weather warrants the cancelation of our worship services or Westend Wednesday activities, announcements will be made on TV13, TV8, the Westend Facebook page, and on the church answering machine.

I would like to thank my Westend family who sent me cards and a poinsettia. Also, thanks to the GEMS who decorated the bags and cards. I’m so grateful for all my Westend family and how grateful I am to have Rev Plockmeyer and Lauren and family among us.    ~ Faye Lazzarini
