Bulletin 12-3-17

December 3, 2017

TODAY

Today is the first Sunday of Advent and Pastor Kory will begin a sermon series on Waiting. The first message, Waiting with Clenched Fists, is from Isaiah 64. During the service we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

Offerings are for Ministries Fund and Faith Promise.

NEXT SUNDAY

Next Sunday Pastor Kory continues the Advent series with Waiting with Open Arms, from Isaiah 10.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Christian Education.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Todd Cappendyk has been released from St Mary’s hospital and transferred to Mary Free Bed for recovery and rehab.

Ron Griffin has been released from the hospital and is home.

Dan Maat’s surgery went well. He is home and back to work.

Jean Near is dealing with some blood pressure irregularities.

Pete Teitsma has been able to return home from the hospital.

Lawrn VanderKlipp had surgery last week and doctors were pleased with how much of the tumor they were able to remove, and with how smoothly the surgery went. Tests are being done to determine what kind of cancer this is, and results will determine future treatments.

The Veenstra’s granddaughter, Norah, has been able to return home from the hospital and is doing well. Thank you for the continued prayers.

Today you are asked to remember our shut-ins in some way. They are; Harry Boersma, Bette Bomhof, Virginia Boonstra, Chuck Cheslek, Melita DeVries, Phyllis Flietstra, Bill Hop, Karen Hop, Gerald Horstman, Mary Koets, Faye Lazzarini, Phyllis Lehrke, Clarence and Lucy Maat, Kathy Molewyk, Jean Near, Eileen Stehouwer, John Timmer, Marjorie Tuit and Ron Verhey.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Met & Exceed. It is with joy and praise to God that we announce meeting our yearend Ministries Fund financial goal! Thank you, Westend family, for your support. Have you been blessed and are you looking for a specific need to give to? Please consider:

  • Christian Education
  • Needed technology upgrades to stream services throughout the church and on our website
  • Phone service updates in the office
  • Signage throughout the church to direct people to different areas more clearly
  • Florescent to LED conversion on many lights in the church (long-term savings to Westend)
  • New carpet through much of the church

These items may seem of little consequence, but they add to our outreach and ministries at Westend. For further and specific facilities needs, contact Jim Goote, Administrator, or Brad Kole, Facilities Chair. Thank you for your continued support! ~ Jeremy Marsman, Treasurer

If you would like to remember our shut-ins with Christmas cards, there are decorated bags in the fellowship center for each of them. Please bring your cards in today. The deacons will deliver the bags to the shut-ins.

Have you been financially blessed this year? Would you consider a special gift to be shared as a Christmas Blessing with those of our church family who haven’t been so fortunate? You may place donations in the offering plate until December 10, labeling them Christmas Blessings. Thank you.

For the next two weeks we will collect gift items for Shawmut Hills kids and their families. Their Wish List includes toys for all ages (newborn to late teen), basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, socks, underwear, slippers, sweats, hoodies, blankets, uniform shirts (polo shirts in red, black or blue), and gift sets (body wash, lotion). Donations may be placed, unwrapped, under the tree in the fellowship center by December 17.

Sunday morning coffee news. There will now be coffee offered before church. The first pot will be put in the large kitchen serving window so you can get a cup or top off your travel mug. There will be a few cookies available if you need a quick snack before the service. Contact Tom Byle if you have questions.

Is your birthday in December? If it is, you are asked to share your birthday joy, and some cookies for coffee time. Cookies may be left in the main kitchen and labeled Coffee Time. Thank you!
