Our guest preacher today is JP Sundararajan from Audio Scripture Ministries. During the service Andrew Peter Robinson, son of Jim and Kerri, will be baptized.

 

NEXT SUNDAY

 

Next Sunday our guest preacher will be Seminarian Jen Rozema. Her message, The Kingdom is at Hand, is from John 2.

 

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Faith Promise.

 

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

 

We offer our condolences to Melita DeVries and the DeVries family in the death of their dear husband, father, and grandfather, Marv. A memorial service will be held today (Sunday, August 27) at 3:00 here at Westend, with an hour of visitation preceding.

 

Kristy Mulder was hospitalized last week with complications and infection following her appendectomy. She has returned home.

 

Gerald Miller had a partial knee replacement last week, and is scheduled to be home now.

 

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

At last Sunday’s congregational meeting, an overwhelming majority of votes were in favor of calling Rev Kory Plockmeyer to be our next Pastor. Over the next weeks, you are encouraged to pray for Kory and his wife Lauren as they seek God’s will for their future. You may wish to send a note of encouragement to them. Everyone is invited to join the prayer group which meets in the Café every Sunday morning at 9:15. Gather with us to give thanks to God, to pray for the service and the needs of our church, and any other concerns.

 

Elders’ Gleanings – at Wednesday night’s meeting, the elders;

  • were blessed to hear the professions of faith of Josh and Erin Thomas. Their public profession will be at a future service.
  • made plans for Communion on October 1, World Communion Sunday.

The shut-in visiting team will meet Friday, September 8, at 9 AM.

 

The Ladies’ Book Club will meet at 7 PM on Thursday, September 14, to discuss Cane River, by Lolita Tademy.

 

The congregation is invited to Sunday Nights with Dan Kroeze. Rev Kroeze will lead discussion-style Bible studies on September 17, October 1, 15, and 29, and November 12. Come to the fellowship center at 5:30 PM, and bring a snack to pass if you wish. Childcare will be provided.

 

Our first Westend Wednesday of the season will be September 20. Come for burgers and hot dogs served by our very own youth group, while we listen to oldies music and admire some great classic cars. Yes, this is a fund-raiser for our youth group, and you know you’ll have fun!

 

Attention all nursery and Children’s Worship volunteers: We will be switching over to Planning Center to organize and schedule nursery and children’s worship. Planning Center is an online system to help churches schedule team members, organize services, and streamline communication. You should be receiving an email from Planning Center soon to help you set up your account.

 

If you wish to write letters or send cards to Ken Blake at the Gus Harrison Correctional Facility, please note that some of their mail policies have changed. Envelopes must be white, non-security, non-padded, and non-cardboard. No stickers or labels (even return address) are allowed. Only blue or black ink or pencil is allowed – no markers. Greeting cards are limited to 6”x8” maximum size and must be commercially produced with no glitter, cutouts, or raised areas. If you have further questions, you may contact Lois.
