Bulletin 9-10-17

September 10, 2017

This morning is our Youth Service. Brian Myers will lead the service and we will hear from many in the youth group.

Next Sunday our guest preacher is Wally Harrison.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Benevolence.

The Veenstra’s 11-month-old granddaughter, Nora, is facing a cranial surgery on Tuesday. Please pray that this goes well.

Stephanie Payton is a candidate for a T-cell study at the Carmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit. Please pray that she is accepted into this program.

Today is our Sunday School kick-off in the fellowship center immediately following worship. Come for cookie decorating, crafts, and playing people Bingo! Kids of all ages are welcome to join the fun! Sunday School and Catechism classes begin next Sunday, September 17.

Sunday morning coffee news. Now you might wonder what kind of news would there be about Sunday morning coffee. Well, there will now be coffee offered before church. The first pot will be put in the large kitchen serving window so you can get a cup or top off your travel mug. There will be a few cookies available if you need a quick snack before the service. Contact Tom Byle if you have questions.

The Knit & Crochet group begins this Thursday at 9:30 AM. Anyone who likes to play with yarn is welcome to join on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays to make items for various causes.

The Ladies’ Book Club is embarking on its 12th year, and will meet at 7 PM this Thursday to discuss Cane River, by Lolita Tademy.

The congregation is invited to Sunday Nights with Dan Kroeze. Rev Kroeze will lead discussion-style Bible studies on September 17, October 1, 15, and 29, and November 12. Come to the fellowship center at 5:30 PM, and bring a snack to pass if you wish. Childcare will be provided.

Our first Westend Wednesday of the season will be September 20. Come for burgers and hot dogs served by our very own youth group, while we listen to oldies music and admire some great classic cars. Yes, this is a fund-raiser for our youth group, and you know you’ll have fun!

Volunteers are needed to set up, serve, and clean up at future Westend Wednesday Community Dinners. A sign up sheet is in the fellowship center.

Coming to Westend Wednesdays – a Beth Moore study on David. If you’ve experienced doubts, temptations, inconsistencies, losses or anguish over family problems, then join us on Westend Wednesdays at 6:45 for an exciting and intimate journey to know King David, the man after God’s own heart. Let’s become women after God’s own heart. See you September 20 in the Café.

The Thursday evening Ladies’ Bible Study begins at 6:30 on September 21, and will meet the 1st and 3rd Thursdays for six sessions. The topic will be the video-based study The Armor of God by Pricilla Schier.

Flu shots will be available in the Café on Wednesday, October 11, 10-11 AM. Watch the Café bulletin board for more details.

Costume jewelry is again being collected for MCFS. Feel free to clean out your jewelry box, and put donations in the box on the table near the mailboxes. Please do so by Thanksgiving.

A family in need of a queen-size mattress and bed set has contacted Westend. If you can help this family, please contact Brian Myers.

We would love to provide a monthly snack to the staff of Shawmut Hills School (our Kids Hope partner). If you are willing to bring a few dozen cookies, bars, muffins, or other treat, please grab a sign up sheet from the stand in the fellowship center, fill it out, and put it in Sue Mellema’s mailbox.
