Bulletin 9-3-17

September 3, 2017

Our guest preacher is Seminarian Jen Rozema.  Her message, The Kingdom is at Hand, is from John 2.

Next Sunday is our Youth Service. Brian Myers will lead the service and we will hear from many in the youth group.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Christian Education.

Eileen Stehouwer fell last month and broke her knee.  She is recuperating in her room at Covenant Village.  Please pray for healing.

Today is the first Sunday of the month, and you are asked to remember our shut-ins in some way.  They are; Harry Boersma, Bette Bomhof, Virginia Boonstra, Chuck Cheslek, Melita DeVries, Bill Hop, Karen Hop, Gerald Horstman, Mary Koets, Faye Lazzarini, Phyllis Lehrke, Clarence and Lucy Maat, Jean Near, Hal Rodenhouse, Eileen Stehouwer, John Timmer, and Marjorie Tuit.

The Cadets are getting an early start!  Come this Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 for an evening of fun and learning.

The shut-in visiting team will meet this Friday in the Café at 9 AM.

We would love to provide a monthly snack to the staff of Shawmut Hills School (our Kids Hope partner).  If you are willing to bring a few dozen cookies, bars, muffins, or other treat, please grab a sign up sheet from the stand in the fellowship center, fill it out, and put it in Sue Mellema’s mailbox.

Teachers for Children’s Worship are needed for fall.  Please sign up using www.signupgenius.com/go/4090F49AAA62BA1F49-fall

We will have a Sunday School kick-off in the fellowship center next Sunday, September 10, immediately following worship.  Come for cookie decorating, crafts, and playing people Bingo!  Kids of all ages are welcome to join the fun!

The Knit & Crochet group begins on September 14 at 9:30 AM.  Anyone who likes to play with yarn is welcome to join on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays to make items for various causes.

The Ladies’ Book Club will meet at 7 PM on Thursday, September 14, to discuss Cane River, by Lolita Tademy.

Sunday School and Catechism classes begin Sunday, September 17.

The congregation is invited to Sunday Nights with Dan Kroeze.  Rev Kroeze will lead discussion-style Bible studies on September 17, October 1, 15, and 29, and November 12.  Come to the fellowship center at 5:30 PM, and bring a snack to pass if you wish.  Childcare will be provided.

Our first Westend Wednesday of the season will be September 20.  Come for burgers and hot dogs served by our very own youth group, while we listen to oldies music and admire some great classic cars.  Yes, this is a fund-raiser for our youth group, and you know you’ll have fun!

Thank you, Westend family, for all the love you gave us through-out Marv’s difficult journey.  So many called, visited, or sent tokens of care.  Special thanks to Pastor Henry who walked with us through the last days of Marv’s earthly life.  We treasure the prayers all of you faithfully offered.  It is such a blessing to be part of the Westend family.  ~ Melita DeVries & family

We want to thank the congregation once again for donating the many backpacks, school supplies, food and time to the backpack festival.  Last weekend there were over 200 people from our community on our front lawn playing games, eating, and talking.  Thanks to each and every one of you who volunteered!  This could never happen without all your help.

  • Our kickoff party will be Saturday, September 9, at 4:30.

We’re going to the beach!

  • The first lesson of the season is September 17 at 3:45.

  • Our first lesson of the season will be September 10 at 6 PM.
  • Save Friday September 15 for our beach party kickoff at 5 PM.

Coit Church is requesting the following items for their Mommy & Me Pantry – baby bottles, baby spoons, baby wipes, bibs, baby powder, baby shampoo, children’s toothbrushes and toothpaste, pacifiers, diapers, and winter clothes (newborn – 5T).  Donations can be dropped off at 606 Lafayette Tuesday-Thursday, 10 AM – 3 PM or call Kristin at 808.5562.
