Thank you for the poinsettia and the many cards I received from my church family this Christmas. God has been good to me this year. -Karen Hop

2021 came upon us so fast. As we move through January I’m reminded that January is National Mentoring Month. This is a time to celebrate mentoring and the positive effect it has on young lives. It’s a time to raise awareness of the need for more mentors to fill the waiting list of children at Shawmut School. It’s also a time of gratitude as we recognize the volunteers who make a difference in the lives of the children in our community, walking together in one-on-one relationships. We’re thankful for our mentors who continue to show up in new ways – teaching our students life lessons that go beyond classroom learning. We’re thankful for our prayer partners who fight the battle on their knees.

Mentors: Thank you for continuing to make yourself available to change the life of a student. We know this year has brought a stop to mentoring but each of you have reached out to your students through notes, phone calls, visits, and prayers. We need to press on. The children in our mentoring program at Shawmut School need us to continue walking with them during this difficult season. Only time and eternity will tell the impact each mentor – now and those who have mentored in the past – will have had on a student. So thank you!

Prayer Partners: Thank you for making prayer a priority for our Kids Hope mentoring program. The mentor-student relationship you consistently pray for depends on divine assistance for successful outcomes. You have chosen to fight the battle on your knees, a battle position not of defense but of offense asking God to do what only He can while we do everything we can. We count on your prayers to help us continue to persevere as we move forward in this crazy school year.

Thank you Westend Church for the continued support you give to the Kids Hope program and to me. -Sue Mellema
