Making a difference in the neighborhood in which we live is important to us. Since 2013, Westend members have spent time mentoring students one-on-one at a neighborhood elementary school, Shawmut Elementary. For the 13 years prior to that, members mentored at Covell Elementary.
Kids Hope mentors are screened, trained, and supported by the Kids Hope USA Director. Each mentor is matched with a child identified by the school staff, and they meet together for an hour each week working on schoolwork and other fun activities. The entire group of mentors, students, and their families also gather for dinner and various activities several times through the year.
Each mentor/mentee pair is also supported by a designated prayer partner from Westend, who supports each pair through faithful and confidential prayer.
