Bulletin 6-28-20

June 28, 2020

TODAY

We gather together for outdoor worship today, weather permitting.  Please bring your lawn chair if you can, and meet near the northwest part of the parking lot.

Pastor Kory concludes the series The Bible Doesn’t Say That.  His message is God Wants Me to be Happy, from John 10:10.  We also celebrate communion and install our newly selected Elders and Deacons.

If you are unable to worship in person, the service will be live-streamed on Youtube and Facebook, and available to watch later in the week if you desire.

NEXT SUNDAY

Pastor Kory will begin a sermon series You Keep Using That Verse.  Next week’s sermon is Judgment-Free Zone, from Matthew 7:1-2.  We will also be wishing the Bootsma family farewell as they head back to Canada for the next phase of Brad’s ministry.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Mary Koets has been receiving chemo, but it has not been effective against the tumor.  Please pray for peace, comfort, and healing as she begins a new regimen of radiation.

We rejoice with Stephanie and Brent DeKryger who were blessed with a son on June 20.  They named him James Ellison.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are looking for prayer partners for those going on the mission trip (July 12-18).  Please contact Brian – bmyers@westendcrc.org – if you are willing to write a couple of notes for a student or adult on the trip, and keep them in your prayers throughout the week.

We are asking for another $2,000 to help cover the food and work supplies for the trip to Midland.  If you are willing, please drop off a donation to the church office or offering box, and make a notation on it for youth mission trip.  Thank you!

Community Outreach Week will be July 28-30.  If you or anyone you know could use a little extra help with yard work, cleaning, or other type of work, contact Brian – bmyers@westendcrc.org – and they will be happy to help!  Adults are also needed to help lead the work crews July 28-29.  Its crazy, but it’s a lot of fun!

As we plan for outdoor worship services, we need volunteer teams to help make it happen!  Please use this form to learn more about the ways you can help and to sign up for a service team:  https://forms.gle/ukxf52YcC2jCxeDx6

Our 2020-2021 budget for the ministries fund has passed by a congregational vote of 72 yes to 2 no.  Thank you.

Save the date!  We hope to have our backpack festival on Wednesday evening, August 12, from 5-7.  More details to come.  If you are willing to pick up school supplies, especially backpacks, please do so and we will soon set up a place for your donations.

Cadet Counselors are needed!  If you are interested, please contact Len Hudson.

A Bootsma family update:

The Last few months have brought on a lot of changes for so many people because of COVID-19. Our family has seen some beautiful things come from this season and some difficult ones. One significant change that has come for our family is a mix of difficult and beautiful. Our time here in Michigan is coming to a close. We will be moving back to Canada on July 6th to Rebecca’s home town on the East Coast of Canada (Prince Edward Island). This all came about quite quickly (sooner than we felt ready for) but we are trusting Gods hand in this and following him where we feel he is calling us. He is good! We are so thrilled to be moving close to family once again. God has really been working and Brad has been given some cool ministry opportunities to be a part of and this is so exciting.  He will be switching his education to distance learning to complete his MDiv studies at Calvin Seminary, will be working with Prison Fellowship Canada as well as a few other exciting opportunities to reach individuals on the margins. We are excited and scared and wanted to take this opportunity to say Thank you!  It has been such a precious time for our family to live here and we have been truly blessed by so many of you from the Westend Church community. From Wednesday community dinners, youth group, GEMS, Cadets, sundays school, friends we have made, the “after church” chats with so many of you, and the encouragement we received so regularly we will always be thankful for you. You did such a great job at welcoming our family. Please don’t stop welcoming new faces into your church family!  You are very special people and you were the true hands and feet of Jesus to a scared and unsure family 2.5 years ago when we moved here and knew no one. We covet your prayers during these last weeks here as so many details need to come together yet.

We are having a small open house this Saturday (June 27th) from 2-4pm for anyone who would like to stop by and say goodbye. Due to Covid-19 we will only be able to gather outside. Our address is 11414 Hunters Meadow Dr. Allendale. Email bradbootsma88@gmail.com if you have any questions. We hope to see you there.
