Bulletin 7-26-20

July 26, 2020

TODAY

We gather together for outdoor worship today.  Pastor Kory continues the series You Keep Using That Verse.  His sermon today is God’s Plan for My Life, from Jeremiah 29:11.  We will also celebrate communion.

Due to the heat, we will continue to have some tents in the parking lot for shade.  Please come prepared with water, sunglasses, and anything else that keeps you comfortable.

If you are unable to worship in person, the service will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook, and available to watch later in the week if you desire.

NEXT SUNDAY

Pastor Kory will continue the series You Keep Using That Verse.  Next week’s sermon is Crashing Planes and Driverless Cars, from 1 Thessalonians 4:17.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Harry Boersma passed away early Wednesday morning.  Please keep his wife, Helen, and the family in your prayers.

Phil VanHeest fell and broke several ribs.  He is in ICU, as pneumonia is a real concern at this time.

Jane VandePol’s mother is in hospice care and is expected to reach the end of her earthly life soon.  Please pray for Carl and Jane and their family.

Please pray for our shut ins and older church members as they face feelings of loneliness and isolation during this time of extended quarantine.

Coit Community Church asks for our support during this time of worry and disruption.  They have been able to assist many people in the neighborhood with encouragement and financial relief.  Please pray that they can continue being the hands and feet of Jesus in the community.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

We hope to have our backpack festival on Wednesday evening, August 12, from 5-7.  If you are willing, please pick up school supplies, especially backpacks.  A bin for donations will be outside the Café on Sunday morning.  If you are unable to drop off donations, contact Sue.

Our Community Outreach Week will take place this week.  We still need a few adult leaders to accompany the youth to worksites.  Contact Brian if you can help.

VIS is looking for volunteers and a truck to haul away some brush and yard waste to the dump for an older gentleman on the NE side of Grand Rapids.  Please contact Renee Maat at 616-212-3628 or rejemaat@gmail.com.

The Cadet Corps hosts a Sporting Clay Shoot on August 22 to benefit the 2021 Camporee in Michigan’s UP.  For more information of this event at Blendon Pines, call 616-241-5616, x4, or check it out at www.calvinistcadets.org under the events tab.  Sponsor opportunities are also available.

Thank you Westend family for all your help and support during this difficult time.  We are blessed to have you as our church family.  ~ Maria Gomez

Thank you, dear Westend family, for your expressions of sympathy so kindly given to us in the home-going of Jim’s brother.  Your thoughts, prayers, words, and cards help to ease the earthly pain we experience in the physical loss of a dear one.  You offer the gift of healing, and we thank you.
