Bulletin 7-16-17

July 16, 2017

TODAY

Our guest preacher this morning is Rev. Trevor Rubingh. He brings with him the New City Kids who will help lead us in worship.

NEXT SUNDAY

Next Sunday we welcome back Seminarian Andrea Bult. During the service Brooke Christians will make her public profession of faith, and Madalyn Esme Crow, daughter of Ashleigh and Royce, will be baptized.

Our opportunities for giving will be for the Ministries Fund and Christian Education.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Tryson Smallegan has had several surgeries in the past couple of weeks to remove portions of an old shunt. Doctors are waiting for an infection to clear up before re-inserting this. A Meal Train has been set up for the Smallegans. Please visit our facebook page for the link.

Chuck Jeltema returned home on Tuesday and is recovering well.

Chuck Tumbling is scheduled to have surgery for colon cancer on July 24, with possible follow up treatments.

Marv and Melita DeVries are both at Vista Springs Assisted Living facility. They are so thankful for your support and many prayers.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Early Friday morning, several of our high school students and leaders left our parking lot and headed to Guatemala. Please pray for their safety and good health, for those whom our youth will be helping during the week, and for our students and leaders, that they may grow closer to our Savior as they follow His example of serving others.

Mission Trip news: The return flight from Guatemala had to be changed. The group is now expected to be here at Westend Friday at 11 PM.

Our Search Committee continues to meet on Thursday evenings. Please pray for the committee and check your email on Thursdays for specific prayer requests.

On August 6, the Guatemala group will share stories and lunch after the worship service. Come to the fellowship center at 11:30 for sandwiches, fruit, and ice cream, followed by pictures from the mission trip.

A copy of your directory entry was in your mailbox two weeks ago. Is everything complete and correct? If so, please initial it and place it in the Secretary mailbox (located before the letter A). If not, please make the corrections and/or additions on the sheet and return it to the Secretary mailbox.

Our prayer line (453-2288) is available to take your prayer requests. Just leave your request after the recorded message. Intercessors will monitor messages day and night and pray for you at any time.

Saturday, August 26, will be our backpack festival. Many volunteers will be needed and sign up sheets will be out in August. Many school supplies are also needed and appreciated – backpacks, paper, pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks and scissors. Time to watch for those back-to-school specials!

Are you looking for last Sunday’s bulletin? None were made. If you were out of town, you may have missed the heavy storms that came through west Michigan and took out power to the Westend office and church buildings. Hopefully, everything you need to know is in this week’s bulletin.

REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Christian Reformed Conference Grounds is excited to welcome Skylight Quartet & Sacred Harmonies in concert on Saturday, July 22. The doors to the Worship Center will open at 6 PM, the concert will begin at 7 PM.  No tickets are needed for any of the summer concerts, however a free-will offering will be taken.  To find out more go to www.crcg.org and click on the summer activities tab.

Please pray for Inspire 2017, a conference to connect people from across the Christian Reformed Church for three days of worship, workshops, speakers, and conversation. As plans are made for this August 3-5 event, please pray for all who will attend. Pray that a spirit of prayer will infuse all of Inspire 2017, that hearts will be opened or reopened to God, to hear his voice and to connect. Pray that people will confidently come to our loving Father wherever they are.

Bulletin lite 7-9-17

Westend Church and office are currently without power, with an anticipated restoration time of 11 PM. Sadly, we have no access to our email, but we are able to post this bulletin “lite” version to keep you informed about the health concerns and prayer needs in our congregation.

Please pray for Tryson Smallegan and his family. Tryson had emergency surgery Thursday night. He had an infection and pseudo cyst in his abdomen, causing his shunt to stop working. Doctors planned to externalize his shunt and put him on antibiotics.  Update:  Tryson’s surgery went well, but the little guy feels pretty awful.  Doctors took out much of the infectious fluid, and his shunt is draining outside his body now into a bag.  He has to stay until the infection is gone and the shunt can be put back inside.

Pray for the youth and their leaders as they prepare to leave for Guatemala next Friday morning (July 14). May God grant them safety, good health, and may they be the hands of Jesus to those they come in contact with.  A sign up sheet will be available Sunday for anyone willing to be a prayer partner to those going on the mission trip.  Brian would also like to collect notes that he can hand out to people while in Guatemala.
